Insurance Authority warns against unauthorized social media platform

The Insurance Authority (IA) today (1 August 2023) alerted the public to an unauthorized social media platform with the domain name of “https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095414914542”. The aforesaid social media platform purports to be the official social media platform of an authorized insurer of Hong Kong, Blue Insurance Limited (Blue Insurance). Blue Insurance has confirmed that it has no connection with the unauthorized social media platform.

The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to the aforesaid social media platform or has conducted any insurance transactions through the social media platform should call Blue Insurance Customer Services Hotline at 3929-3929 and report the case to the Hong Kong Police Force.

Any company carrying on insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorized by the IA under the Insurance Ordinance (Cap. 41). The full list of authorized insurers in Hong Kong can be found on the Register of Insurers on the IA website. ]
