The Insurance Authority (IA) today (10 November 2023) alerted the public to an unauthorized social media platform with the domain name of “https://www.instagram.com/wealth_man8/”. The aforesaid social media platform purports to be the official social media platform of an authorized insurer in Hong Kong, BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited (BOC Life). BOC Life has confirmed that it has no connection with the aforesaid unauthorized social media platform.
The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to the aforesaid social media platform or has conducted any insurance transactions through the aforesaid social media platform should contact the BOC Life Customer Service Hotline at 2860 0688, and report the case to the Hong Kong Police Force.
Any company carrying on insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorized by the IA under the Insurance Ordinance (Cap. 41). The full list of authorized insurers in Hong Kong can be found on the Register of Insurers on the IA website.
